Half Helen School Days

Same mission, new model—half Helen now brings students to our clinic during the school day to receive the same high-quality eye care they’ve come to rely on.

Vision impairment is one of the most prevalent disabling conditions among children. With 80% of learning being visual, early detection and treatment of vision issues can make a life-changing difference in a child’s academic success.

Nationally, 40% of children who fail a school vision screening never receive follow-up care. The most common barriers? Unaffordable costs and lack of transportation. That’s where half Helen comes in.

What is a half Helen School Clinic?

Until recently, we delivered care through a mobile tiny house clinic. In fall of 2025, we launched our first School Day Clinic model, where students are now transported from their campus to the half Helen Eye Clinic. This allows us to continue providing comprehensive care in a fully equipped clinical setting—without placing additional burdens on families.

The half Helen team works closely with school staff to identify students who have failed their vision screenings. These students are then scheduled for a visit to our clinic, where they receive a comprehensive eye exam from a board-licensed optometrist. If glasses are needed, they select a stylish pair on-site—free of charge.

Why It Matters

By eliminating the two biggest barriers to care—cost and transportation—half Helen helps ensure no child’s education is held back by an untreated vision issue. And now, with our updated School Day Clinic model, we’re able to serve more students more efficiently—without compromising on quality.

Warby Parker Pupils Project

half Helen is proud to be a partner of Warby Parker’s Pupils Project, a program dedicated to expanding access to vision care for school-aged children. Through this partnership, students who receive glasses from half Helen also have the opportunity to choose a second pair—ensuring they always have a backup whether at home or at school. This added support helps students stay focused in the classroom and never miss a moment due to blurry vision.
